Beautiful 1910 Tissue-Silk ‘Night’ Dress or ‘Day’ Dress (Small Size)
This wonderful silk dress or gown was made in the early 1900s, and for its 100 years of age, it’s still in excellent condition! The ultra-rare piece is located in our New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Lingerie, and is a valued part of Richard’s fabulous collection.
The garment appears to be more dress than nightdress, as the silk fabric is very-very thin. Worn as a day dress, the garment requires a simply-styled slip with a square or round neckline.
The dress-gown is best suited for a person with a very-small waist, (23-1/2 inches max) as the back hook/eye closure can’t accommodate a larger waist size. By contrast, the rest of the bodice is very-loose fitting, and will easily accommodate a 38-inch bust.
Other fascinating details include a “doubled” hem flounce which is 10 inches deep. The lace-lined hem is near a half-circle in circumference.
For a fragile silk dress-gown that is about a century old, the garment appears to be in wonderful condition. The few very-small holes (pinholes, actually) are well-scattered, and are not of concern.
We have more photos of this wonderful piece, and would be delighted to send them on your request.
