Silver Screen Loungerie offers vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we occasionally find a “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner.
This beautifully crafted silk slip is one of the best from the early 1930s, and it has seldom been worn! It is in excellent condition and the few very faint water-based spots - all near the lacy hem of the slip - can be laundered out very easily. This slip was made and sold by the now-closed Franklin Simon & Co. store on Fifth Avenue in New York City. The Franklin Simon “Underthings Shop for Madamoiselle” label is present in the back neckline.
We note the sharply diagonal bodice seams which indicate early 1930s manufacture. This seaming style accounts for the waist measurement being the same as the bust measurement. (There is no crosswise waist seam.) The seams are double-stitched, and the seam allowances show almost no signs of wear. The silk charmeuse fabric is without peer, and the lace trim is the best available… then and now!
The slip is typically long for the 1930s, and it runs to the lower calf on our ‘Gloria’ in-house model. The shoulder straps have no “sliders”, so we tucked in about 2 inches of the straps. Please be certain that your own body measurements are less than the stated measurements of the slip.
With normal wear and care, this beautiful slip should last the lifetime of the fortunate buyer!
