Silver Screen Loungerie offers vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find an occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner.
This wonderful early 20th Century night dress is in such beautiful condition, that it’s hard to believe that it is almost 100 years old! The garment has just a few almost-invisible water-spots, but these are due to the many years of storage. There are no flaws that we could find in the silk fabric, and the French seams are as strong as they originally were. The puffy silk flowers, and the perfect lace trim indicate almost no wear by the original owner!
There is no maker’s label, but the fabric is a finely-woven silk crepe made by Mallinson’s. We found “Mallinson’s Pussy Willow” imprinted on the selvage of one of the French side-seams. This dates the fabric to about 1915 – 1920.
As with most “pre-1930s” gowns, this night dress was designed to hang straight from the shoulders, and is very loose-fitting. The garment is “straight-cut”, (not “bias-cut”), and has no crosswise waist seam. On our 5’ -11” ’Gloria’ model, the hem is just below her ankle level – about 56 inches long.
Although silk lingerie (including this piece) can easily be hand-laundered, we recommend dry cleaning by the new owner. (Cleaning will also remove the very-few super-faint water-spots.)
The gown is not only beautiful to look at, but worn with care, it is eminently wearable by today’s modern woman!
It is ready to wear and fit for a Star – YOU – the Leading Star of your own life!
