This silk night dress (boudoir gown) dates from about the Edwardian Era, and is a prize piece among Richard’s Collection of silk “frillies”! The frillies are located in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. You will find this beauty in both the “Flapper Frillies” and “Richard’s Collection” departments. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This 100 years-old night dress is in such beautiful condition with no flaws that we could find! The many years of storage have been kind to this garment, as there are no breaks in the lace, and the (tiny) French seams are as strong as they originally were. The “Trousseau Crepe” label covers a (style) number tag, which in turn, covers the remnant of the size tag.
On the neckline, the triangular lace motifs suggest the Edwardian Era, but we’re not certain about this. The night dress drapes A-line straight from the shoulders, and it has no waist seam. There are two side-back French seams, and two long strips of lace are used in place of the two “side-front” seams The fabric is a featherweight silk crepe - so typical of silk “underthings” made 100 years ago.
This wonderful boudoir dress will be a joy to the fortunate buyer! It is ready to swan about in your home for a Star – YOU – the Leading Star of your own life!
