This beautifully-made silk nightgown is one of the most attractive lingerie pieces that we’ve seen from the mid-1930s! It is one of Richard’s fabulous silks, and it comes from his fab New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie! Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our unique boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, like this one, most of our items have been gently worn by just one previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This fine silk nightgown is made from a fabric unique to the 1920s and 1930s – a thin silk often referred to as silk pongee. This fabric looks and feels much the same as the later silk crepe-de-chines. The gown features a wide, portrait-collared neckline, with the collar-ends extending into long ties or “streamers”. We note the tiny pinch-pleats which radiate outwards from the V-shaped neckline. The collar and it’s tie-ends are all edged ecru lace trim. There are attached silk ribbons which are bow-tied on the left side.
The gown appears to be never-worn, but we hand-laundered it to remove storage wrinkles. There was a frayed size tag, but we removed it from the neckline. There are no stains and no holes that we could find, and the seams are as strong as they originally were.
On our 5’ – 10” Gloria model, the gown drapes 58 inches to her ankles. This portrait-collared nightgown is as ready to wear as the day it was made, and is fit for a Goddess – YOU – the Portrait Goddess of your own Life!
