This wonderful silk nightgown dates from the mid-1930s, and has never been worn! It is one of Richard’s select group of 1930s silk beauties in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. You will find this treasure in both the Nightgowns and Richard’s Collection departments. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to visit our unique boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This nightgown bears no maker’s label, but it was made to the highest dressmaking standards of the 1930s. It’s obvious that the gown has never been worn and/or laundered, as the fabric retains that crisp “new” feeling from original manufacture. Both the wonderful silk fabric and the fantastic lace are the best available in that era. We believe that the materials were imported from France, and some skilled dressmaker created the gown as we see it now.
The entire front bodice is made from two panels of the finest lace, and you just can’t see where the lace was seamed together at the bottom of the V neckline! At the sides, the French seams disappear where they meet the lace at the hem. Just over the belly-button, we found four inverted “V”s done with the tiniest drawnwork that we’ve ever seen.
The gown is in as mint condition as the 1930s day when it was made. No holes and no stains. The silk crepe-de-chine fabric retains a little stiffness from original manufacture and the many years of storage. The first hand-laundering will soften the silk fabric, and the bias-cut skirt will drape more beautifully against the body.
On our 5’ – 11” ‘Gloria’ model, the gown extends to just even with her ankles.
This romantic nightgown is ready to wear, and just perfect for you - the leading Star of your own Life!
