This is a floor-length silk nightgown… a ‘recent vintage’ beauty as made by Peggy Jennings Designs Inc. of St. Petersburg, Florida. The gown is in near-mint, unworn condition, and it is housed in our New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. You will find it listed here in the Bridal Trousseau and Richard’s Collection categories. Click on one of our 'Gloria' models to visit our unique boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional new/old stock piece, (like this one!), most of our items have been gently worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
Peggy Jennings is currently making dress and lingerie items for first ladies, ceo’s, and chairwomen. This nightgown bears the same lace label that appears in all Peggy Jennings garments. The label is shown in the 4th reclining picture.
The quality of the silk charmeuse fabric is equal to – arguably better than the best silks of the 1930s. The top and bottom of this gown are enhanced with wide panels of cotton lace. Two silk “rosebuds” anchor the right shoulder strap, and there is a thigh-high (16-1/2 inches) slit on the left side. The gown is “straight-cut”, and floats freely from shoulder to hem.
This gown is almost too pretty to be worn in bed, and it seems ideal for “swanning” about the home! The gown has no flaws that we could find… not even a faint water-spot or tiny pinhole! We measured a comfortable 36 to 38 inches around the middle of lace in the bodice. There is a single button closure under the left arm.
On our 5’ – 11” ‘Gloria’ model, the gown ends just above her ankles. We are very pleased to offer this gown… which is among the prettiest of the 1980s. It is also one of the prettiest gowns for the year 2012!
