This is one of the more unusual undergarments from the 1920s… it is a one-piece silk lounging pyjama. This wonderful Richard’s Collection garment has never been worn, and you will find it listed in the Lounging Pajamas and Bridal Trousseau categories. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our special boutiques!
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are committed to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, (like this one!), most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty.
This blue “Flapper Girl” pyjama” has had its label, removed, but we see no indication that it has been worn and/or laundered. We did hand-launder this item, but only to remove surface dust and new-fabric stiffness. The silk crepe-de-chine fabric is now as soft as you would want it to be.
It is Irresistible!
(“Irresistible” is the title of Desire Smith’s forthcoming book on vintage lingerie.) In the 1920s and 30s, garment quality was very-high, and the custom tailors and dressmakers were unequaled in making these beautiful lingerie pieces.
Although the pictures speak volumes about this one-piece pajama, one needs to actually wear it to revel in the look and feel of this superb silk fabric! As worn by our 5’ – 11” size 33 ‘Gloria’ model, the pajama legs go down to her mid-calves. The pyjama is a “step-in” style, with a self-fabric belt going around the back, and tied on the left side. Looking at the 5th picture – Gloria is wearing a pink silk cover-up over her pyjama. This cover-up will soon be listed separately in the “Flapper Frillies” category.
