This Oh, my heart! 1930s nightgown has a 174-inch sweeping skirt, and it is one of the most ethereally-beautiful silk nightgowns that we have ever seen! This beauty is listed in both the Bridal Trousseau and the Richard’s Collection categories.
We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care in restoring the items – as much as possible, to their original beauty
Two familiar labels adorn this nightgown - Chevette for the maker, and the store label is “The FRANCES Shop - south bend, Indiana”. (See the 4th picture) This is an early Chevette creation… made long before it became part of Carole Hochman’s company. The fabric is an unbelievably-soft silk charmeuse-satin – far superior to any lingerie-weight silk in today’s market. Even with the huge expanse of this half-circle skirt, we couldn’t find any holes or spots. With only the miniature wrinkles from long-time storage, the gown appears to be the same as the 1930s day when it was made!
The midriff panel is comprised of pin-tucked silk chiffon, and there are longish waist ties – formed into a pretty bow in back. There is a long slit in the centre-back, and the armholes are cut to the waist seam.
Our ever-patient ‘Gloria’ model stands 5’ – 11” tall, and the gown falls to just over her toes! For a gown that was made almost 80 years ago, this is so desirable… ready to wear, and fit for a 2011 Star – YOU – the Leading Star of your own Boudoir Life!
