Made in the mid-1930s, this nightgown was made from the best possible silk crepe-de-chine fabric, and it’s in wonderful – likely unworn condition! Along with other slips and nightgowns from this era, this beauty is now listed in both the Nightgowns and Richard’s Collection departments. We at Silver Screen Loungerie, are dedicated to offering vintage lingerie items of the highest quality possible. While we sometimes find the occasional “new/old stock” piece, most of our items have been either gently or moderately worn by a previous owner. By definition, “vintage” means “old”, and we take great care to restore items – as much as possible – to their original beauty.
Offered for your lounging pleasure, is this rare piece of French-made silk femininity! The gown appears to never having been worn, and we found no stains and no holes anywhere in the fabric. We believe the garment was hand-made in France, as the French silk crepe-de-chine fabric is of the highest quality. The gown has an impressive “full-sweep” skirt, which flares out to a half-circle (150 inches) in circumference.
The inside construction is among the best that we’ve seen… with French seams and a hem that was turned up and finished by hand. Other details include a centered lace medallion, which “anchors’ the large end of the pintucks. A marvelous design – so typical of the best French lingerie from this era!
On our 5’ – 11” ‘Gloria’ model, the gown falls to 55-1/2 inches from her shoulders… about 2 or 3 inches above her ankles. The listed measurements are those of the gown itself. For a good fit, please ensure that your own body measurements are less.
