Smokey Black Bemberg! 1940s Unworn Semi-Sheer Rayon Nightgown Sz- 40 (#1186)
This semi-sheer rayon nightgown dates from the 1940s, and is one of Richard’s select group of “knockout” beauties in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie! You will find this gown in both the Bridal Trousseau and Richard’s Collection departments. Click on one of the 'Gloria' models to explore our special boutiques!
Anyone who is familiar with the “Bemberg” word, knows that gowns and slips made from Bemberg rayon yarns are among the most highly-prized lingerie pieces in the 1940s! Bemberg rayon was often blended with silk, and we have a few of these Bemberg-blended silks in our stock. This particular gown was made from a ultra smooth Bemberg yarn into a fascinating semi-sheer nightgown which has never yet been worn! The gown is essentially “new/old stock”, and even the “Size 40” tag is clear and unfrayed.
As black clothing is difficult to photograph, the photos were over-exposed to better show the details. Note the sheer lace enhancing the neckline, and the perky blue-ribbon bows perched just over the bust. The fabric in the bust area is very-gathered… allowing for up to an approximate “D” cup. The bias-cut skirt falls gracefully to the hem which is finished with ¾-inch lace trim. Pieces of triangular-shaped fabric are “pieced-in” at the bottom to give the skirt a more swirly appearance.
Although the garment was designed as a nightgown…. with a black (or pastel-coloured) long slip, it would be just fine for wear as an evening gown!
The gown is ready to wear and fit for a star – YOU – the leading lady in your life!
Additional pictures are available, and we would be pleased to send them on request.
