This delicate night dress dates from the early 1920s, and is a prize piece among Richard’s Collection of silk “flapper frillies”! This collection is located in the New Jersey ‘HQ’ of Silver Screen Loungerie. You will find this beauty in both the “Flapper Frillies” and “Richard’s Collection” departments.
The night dress is in mint, unworn condition, with no flaws that we could find. As in most lingerie from the 1920s and earlier, this piece was cut to hang loosely from the shoulders, and fall gracefully to the hem. Without a crosswise waist seam, the gown is not only comfortable to wear…. it is entrancing to look at!
Note that with the deep armholes, the “full bust” measurement is only an approximation. We measured 40 inches, “pit-to-pit”, which is 3 to 4 inches below the average bust line. There are thread loops for the (included) silk ribbon waist tie, but the loops are stitched below the natural waistline. We are undecided on whether the gown looks better with or without the ribbon waist tie…. so, it’s your choice!
This night dress is clearly one of the prettiest that we’ve seen from the 1920s era…. And to find it in pristine, unworn condition – amazing! The French-lace neckline is beautifully done, and features tiny silk “flowerlets” over the right breast. The deep armholes and the curvy-shaped hemline are trimmed with cotton net.
The fabric has that “cobwebby” kind of silk chiffon that is unique to 1920’s dress and boudoir garments. It’s in as perfect condition as it originally was…. it actually looks as though it was made just yesterday! French seams? – Of course!
We offer this as a wonderful boudoir gown that will be a joy to the fortunate buyer! It is ready to wear and fit for today’s star – YOU – the Leading Lady of Your Life!
